I believe innovation is the most powerful force for change in the world….Success today requires the agility and drive to constantly rethink, reinvigorate, react, and reinvent.

The computing curriculum at The Rydal Academy is built to prepare children with the knowledge and skills to thrive in a digital world. In line with guidance from the National Curriculum and the Department for Education, we have developed our own unique and creative scheme of work.
Children learn skills across a range of topics, including coding and programming their own games, websites, and even apps! There are also progressive opportunities for them to develop and refine other computer life skills such as typing, word processing, data handling, and creating and editing pictures.
Central to all the work covered is how to use the Internet in an effective way, including how to keep safe, protect our information, prevent cyber-bullying and how to access support. Internet Safety is very important to us and we have worked hard to achieve the National Online Safety Award. This was awarded due to the quality of our computing curriculum and the continuous training of the staff.
Our computing curriculum ensures that children’s knowledge and skills develop progressively as they move through our school. Children continually revisit and build on their previous learning as well as encountering new and exciting challenges within in unit.
We know that our children enjoy computing lessons because they tell us they love learning new skills, problem solving and being creative. We live in a digital world; many of the skills taught will be used, not only daily in children’s education, but also daily in their future lives.
