Writing

At The Rydal Academy, English lessons provide our students with a variety of rich and engaging learning opportunities. Texts and writing topics are chosen and sequenced carefully and make meaningful links with the wider curriculum where possible to reinforce learning and knowledge. Children are encouraged to use a range of writing skills as well as their imagination and creativity.

Writing topics are planned carefully to ensure progression of skills, and lessons allow for rich discussions and chances to share ideas. This creates a learning environment where all children feel safe to experiment with and edit their ideas, based on advice from peers and wider feedback.

Within English lessons, staff are continually making dynamic assessments to reshape the learning experience and to maximise the progression for all of our children.

At The Rydal Academy, we take great pride in our writing, especially our Purple Presentation books. These are used at the end of topics for children to express themselves and showcase their skills to produce outstanding pieces of writing that are created for purpose and engagement.

The children value the opportunity to work independently to publish their work, considering the use and power of colour, illustrations and layout specific for the audience of their piece of writing.
