First aid procedures
Accidents, injuries and illnesses can occur during the school day. Where first aid is required, pupils are supported by a suitably trained member of staff.
Parents/carers will be informed of injuries, illnesses or incidents in line with the school’s procedures. Where a child becomes unwell, sustains a head injury, requires ongoing monitoring, or requires urgent medical attention, parents/carers will be contacted as soon as practicable.
In the event of a medical emergency, the school will contact emergency services and parents/carers as soon as possible. Where a parent/carer cannot be contacted, staff will act in the best interests of the child and seek emergency medical assistance where necessary.

Medicines in school
Prescribed medicines may be administered in school where it is necessary for doses to be taken during the school day and where the appropriate consent arrangements are in place. All medicines must be brought into school by a parent/carer and handed directly to a member of staff.
Medicines are stored and administered in accordance with the school’s Policy for Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions.
Where a pupil has an identified medical condition that requires ongoing support, the school will work with parents/carers and, where appropriate, relevant professionals, to develop an Individual Healthcare Plan.

Allergens
When parents/carers inform the school that a child has a food allergy or allergy-related medical condition, information will be gathered to help the school assess and manage any risks.
Where a pupil requires medication or additional medical support, the school will work with parents/carers and, where appropriate, relevant professionals to develop an Individual Healthcare Plan.
The school takes reasonable steps to reduce the risk of exposure to allergens. Parents/carers are asked not to send nuts or products containing nuts into school and to check packed lunches and snacks carefully.
